The Society of Organists (Vic) Inc. is pleased to announce a composition competition to write a piece of music for the pipe organ. Details below.
Categories: There will be one category with two prizes.
Prizes: First prize $1500 including student membership of SOV for one year.
Second prize $500 including student membership of SOV for one year.
Age limit: The competition is open to people up to 30 years of age.
Length of Composition: 5 – 8 minutes.
The piece must be written for solo pipe organ, exclusively. Electronic organ or other keyboard instrument is not suitable. Writing for other instruments also will not be accepted.
Copyright: Copyright of the compositions will be owned by the composer but the Society could have use of them for performances. For example, the prize winner could have the work performed at one of our events.
Start of Competition: Competition open on January 1st
Submission Deadline: Deadline for submissions by those entering is 31 December 2021.
Composers to be encouraged to become members of the Society of Organists (soon to rename to Organ Music Society of Victoria).
Please do not include your name or identifying information on the actual music. A cover page must be submitted with name, address and any other relevant information, such as inspiration for the piece, if any.
You must provide a scanned copy of your drivers’ licence or passport as proof of age.
