Who Are We?

The Society of Organists [Victoria] Inc. is based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

The Society of Organists (Victoria) Incorporated was founded in 1938 by a small group of Melbourne organists who felt the need for a fellowship of organists sharing the same communion of interests and Herbert Davis was elected the first President by his founding colleagues. The Society is a descendant of one of the oldest organists associations in the world and its origins can be traced back to the formation of a society of organists in Melbourne in 1887. The Society aims to encourage and uphold high musical standards amongst members, teachers and students of the organ, as well as fostering an interest in the organ and its music in the wider community.

What Do We Do?

The Society arranges visits to organs old and new, organ playing competitions, choral and organ festivals, concerts by International and Australian organists, an Annual Dinner and many other musical and social events. Encouragement is given to younger people to learn, play and enjoy the vast repertoire of the organ.
